Time, Place, and Condition Where Our Du’a will be Answered
- Supplicating after praising Allah and reciting salawat for the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- on the last of tashahhud
From Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud -may Allah be pleased with him-, he said,
“”At a time, I was praying while the Prophet – peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-, Abu Bakr, and Umar were with me. When I sat, I began with praising Allah and reciting shalawat upon the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-, then I recited du’a for myself; then the Prophet – peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said, “Ask! You’ll be given! You’ll be given.” (Narrated by Tirmidhi, he said, “Hasan shahih” (good and/or valid). Also by Nisa’i and Ahmad, and classed valid by Sheikh al Albani).
Fudhalah narrated that the Messenger of Allah – peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- once heard a man performed prayer, he glorified Allah, praised Him, and recited shalawat upon the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- ; thus the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said,
“Make du’a, you’ll be answered, and ask, you’ll be given.” (Narrated by Nisa’i and classed valid by Sheikh al Albani).
- Upon supplicating preceded by the greatest names of Allah (Ismulllahil a’zham), which, if a person make du’a using it, the du’a will be answered and if he asks using it, he’ll be given.
From the authority of Anas, (he said) that he was sitting with the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-, whereas at that time, a man was praying, then he supplicated, “O Allah, indeed, I ask from You, because to You all praises belong, there is no deity that has the right to be worshipped except You. You are The Bestower, You created the skies and earth. O The Possessor of greatness and nobleness, O The Ever Living, the Self subsisting by Whom all subsist.” Thus the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said, “Indeed, he has supplicated with the greatest names of Allah (ismullahil a’zham), which, if person makes du’a with it, He will answer it, and if asks using it, He’ll give him.” (Narrated by Abu Daud, Tirmidhi, Ahmad, Hakim, and classed valid by Sheikh al Albani)
- Du’a of a muslim for the sake of his muslims brother
The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- also said,
“”Du’a of a muslim for the sake of his muslim brother who are not with him will be answered. There is an angel near him that is sent to him. Every time he prayed for the sake of his brother, the angel that is sent to him will say, “Amin (meaning: Grant it, O Allah),” and you’ll get the similar.” (Narrated by Muslim).
- Supplicating on the Day of Arafa, at Arafa
The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said, ,
“”The best du’a is du’a on the day of Arafa, and the best of what I and the prophets before me said is, “There is no deity that has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the kingdom and the praise belong to Him, and He is The Most Powerful over everything.” (Narrated by Tirmidhi and Malik, and classed good by Sheikh al Albani)
- Supplication recited on the month of Ramadan
The Messenger of Allah – peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said,
“When Ramadhan comes, the gates of mercy will be opened, and the gates of Hell woll be closed, and satan will be chained.” (Narrated by Muslim).
- When the Muslims gather in Dhikr
The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said,
“Those who are on the way to get or pursue ilm (knowledge in islam), Allah will then make his way (road) easier to the paradise. If there is a group of people gather in the house of Allah (mosque), and they read the books of Allah and they learn about it altogether, the tranquility will be revelated to them and blessing will be poured upon them, and the angels will surround them, while Allah will mention them in front of His creation beside Him. Those who are slow in performing deed, will not be able to speed up his nasab. (Narrated by Muslim)
- Upon supplicating after being afflicted with a calamity, that is, after reciting the sentence of “innaa lillahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji’uun.
Umm Salamah said,
I heard the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said,
“None of a muslim being afflicted with a calamity, and he recites what Allah orders him to, which is, “Innaa lillahi…to its end” (Meaning: Verily, we belong to Allan and to Him will we return. O Allah, please reward me upon my calamity, and replace it with the better).
Umm Salamah said, “Thus, when Abu Salamah died, I said, “Who’s a muslim that is better than Abu Salamah? The first family that emigrated to the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-? Then I recited these sentences, and it turned out that Allah replaced Abu Salamah with the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-.” (Narrated by Muslim)
- Supplicating at the time Our Hearts is Leaning towards Allah and in sincerity
The supporting indication is the story of three men who were trapped inside a cave due to a big rock that fell and blocked its entrance.
- Du’a of An Oppressed Person against his oppressor
The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said, :
“And beware of the du’a of the oppressed one, because nothing stands between his du’a and Allah.” (Narrated by Bukhari)
- Du’a of Parents for the sake of their Children
The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said,
“Three du’a that undoubtedly will be answered; du’a of an oppressed person, du’a of a traveler, and du’a of a parent for the sake of his children.” (Narrated by Tirmidhi, Abu Daud, Ibn Maja, and classed good by Sheikh al Albani).
- Du’a of A Traveler
The indication is as mentioned in the previous hadith.
- Du’a of a fasting man until he breaks his fast
The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said,
“Three du’a that wont be rejected; Du’a of a fasting man until he breaks his fast, du’a of a fair imam, and of an oppressed person. Allah will uplift du’a of an oppressed person over the clouds, and He’ll open the doors of the skies for it. Allah declared, “By My Mightiness, I will help you although after a long time has passed.” (Narrated by Tirmidhi, Ibn Maja, al Baghawi, and classed valid by Sheikh al Albani).
- Supplication of a Fasting Man upon Breaking his fasting
The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-said, ,
“Indeed, a fasting person has a prayer that wont be rejected at the time of ifthar (breaking of fast).” (Narrated by Ibn Maja, and classed as good by Al Hafizh Ibn Hajar
in his study over the book “Al Adzkar 4/342)
- Du’a of A Tightly Cornered Person
It is based on Allah’s verse, “Who is it Who heeds the prayers of the distressed when he calls out to Him and Who removes his affliction?” (QS. An Naml/The Ant: 62)
Other supporting indication of this point is a hadith about three men who were trapped inside a cave that was blocked by a large stone, from which they couldn’t escape, then each of them made du’a with mentioning his righteous deed, as narrated in Shahih Bukhari and Muslim.
- Du’a of A Fair Leader
The indication is as mentioned in point no. 27

“”If the children of Adam dies, all of his deeds will be stopped except for three things; the continuing alms, useful knowledge for others, or a righteous children who prays for the sake of his parents.” (Narrated by Muslim from Abu Huraira).
