The Compassion of Our Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-

Prophet Muhammad -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- is a prophet that was sent as a grace for the universe, and he is a very compassionate prophet to all creatures; to human being, animals, and even plants. Here are several hadith that explain the compassion of the Prophet to other human being, albeit they were infidels who denied his calling -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-.

From ‘Aisha -may Allah be pleased with her-, she told that once she asked the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him-, ‘Have you encountered a day harder than the day (of the battle) of Uhud?” The Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- replied,

“Your tribes have troubled me a lot, and the worse trouble was the trouble on the day of ‘Aqaba when I presented myself to Ibn ‘Abd-Yâlil bin ‘Abd-Kulâl and he did not respond to my demand. So, I departed, overwhelmed with excessive sorrow, and proceeded on, and could not relax till I found myself at Qarn-ath-Tha’âlib, where I lifted my head towards the sky to see a cloud shading me unexpectedly. I looked up and saw Gabriel in it. He called me saying, ‘Allah has heard your people’s saying to you, and what they replied back to you, Allah has sent the angel of the mountains to you so that you may order him to do whatever you wish to these people.’ The angel of the mountains called upon me and greeted me, and then said, ‘O Muhammad! Order what you wish. If you like, I will let Al-Akhshabain (i.e., two mountains) fall on them.’ The Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said, No, but I hope that Allah will let them beget children who will worship Allâh Alone, and will worship none besides Him.'” (Narrated by Al Bukhari in hadith no. 3059 and Muslim, no. 4754, and this is the narration in Sahih Al Bukhari)

The Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- went out, saying, “All praises be to Allah Who has saved him from the Hell.” [See: Sahih Bukhari, No. 1356, 5657]

From Abu Huraira -may Allah be pleased with him-, he said:

“I used to call my mother to Islam when she was a idolator. I called her one day, and she said to me something about the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- that I disliked. I called her today and she said to me something about you that I disliked. Pray to Allah to guide the mother of Abu Huraira.’ The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said: ‘O Allah, guide the mother of Abu Huraira.’ I went out, feeling optimistic because of the supplication of the Prophet of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- ”When I came near the door, I found it closed. My mother heard my footsteps and said: ‘Stay where you are, O Abu Huraira!’ I heard the sound of falling water. She performed Ghusl (bathe) then she put on her chemise and quickly put on her head cover, then she opened the door and said: ‘O Abu Huraira, I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.’ He said: ‘I went back to the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- and I came to him, weeping with joy.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, be of good cheer, for Allah has answered your prayer and has guided the mother of Abu Huraira.’ He praised and glorified Allah and said good things.”I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make my mother and I beloved to His believing slaves, and to make them beloved to us.’ The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said: ‘O Allah, make this slave of Yours’ – meaning Abu Huraira – ‘and his mother beloved to Your believing slaves, and make the believers beloved to them.’ There is no believer created who hears of me or sees me, but he loves me.'” (Narrated by Muslim, in “book of the Virtues of the companions”.)
