Supplication When Entering The Markets, Malls, and Public Places

“Whoever enters the market, and recites:

لاَ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِيْ وَيُمِيْتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لاَ يَمُوْتُ، بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرُ.

“Laa ilaaha illalloohu wahdahu laa syariika lahu, lahulmulku walahulhamdu, yuhyii wa yumiitu wa huwa hayyun laa yamuutu, biyadihil khoiir, wa huwa ‘ala kulli syai’in qodiir.”

Allah will write down for him one million goodness, erase from him one million wickedness, and exalt for him one million levels.”

(Narrated by At Tirmidhi 5/291, Al-Hakim 1/538 and Ibn Maja 2235. Al-Albani commented that the hadith is good (hasan) in his work “Sahih Ibn Maja 2/21 and Sahih At-Tirmidhi 2/152.)

Interpretation of the supplication:

(None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without any partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is living and does not die. In His hand is all good and He is over all things, omnipotent.)

The messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him -said:

“The best place is the mosque, While the worst is the market.” (Narrated by Ibn Hibban no 1599. Sheikh Syuaib al Arnauth commented, “Hadits hasan”).

The values and virtues of this supplication are immeasurable because usually the markets, malls, and other public places are places that shirking people from remembering Allah and the Hereafter, thus, if we’re able to remember Allah and to recite remembrances in such places, we’ll achieve those great and tremendous virtues…

Have a nice practice, and may you be successful in doing it, Amin.
