Obtaining the Rewards of Lailatul Qadr

Obtaining the Rewards of Lailatul Qadr

Admonition of Ramadan: Obtaining the Rewards of Lailatul Qadr

All praises be to Allah, peace and prayer of Allah be upon Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.

Dear brother! Could you raise your hand in prayer for 5 hours non-stop? Or, are you able in standing for prayer for a whole night, 8 hours non-stop? I believe it is very hard, and you would instantly say, ” No…I can’t do it…”

How about reciting the Qur’an for a week without stopping, but only for eating, drinking, and urinating? Could you?

Brother, those are easy; even longer than that, are easy, and you could do it not only for a week, but for years. It is not difficult, even e very light thing, and you could do it without much sweating, trembling, or feeling numb in your limbs.

Great, isn’t it? Would you want to know how to do it? Here it is:

“Behold, We revealed this (Qur’an) on the Night of Power. {1} And what do you know what the Night of Power is? {2} The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. {3} The angels along with the Spirit descend in it by the permission of their Lord with all kinds of decrees. {4} All peace is that night until the rise of dawn. {5} “ (Qs. Al Qadar: 1-5)

Look brother! This Lailatul Qadr (The Night of Power) is said better than 1000 months. Do you know how long 1000 months is? Know that 1000 months equals 83 years and 4 months.

Allah the Great! If you prayed to Allah on that night, it means that your prayer is better than praying for 83 years and 4 months.

Dear brother, think for a while, how long probably your living will span in this world? 70 years? or 80 years? or, 90 years?

Assuming you are given many years of life, that is 90 years. But what do you think about your physical condition on your 90th year? Will you still be gallant as now, or will you be weak, unable to do many things but with the helps of your grandchildren?

Thus, it is highly probable that you couldn’t pray continuously for your whole life, or supplicate, or recite the Qur’an for 83 years and 4 months.

This fact motivated the Messenger of Allah – peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- to pray intensely and very studiously at the last 10 days of month Ramadan. He tried to pray exactly on the night of Power, by worshipping, performing night prayer, reciting the Qur’an, and supplicating continuously, asking for goodness in this world and in the Hereafter.

‘Aisha -may Allah be pleased with her-, one of the wife of Allah’s messenger -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- told,

“During his lifetime, the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- prayed very seriously at the last ten days of Ramadan, more than his seriousness at other times.” (Narrated by Muslim).

In another narration, he -peace and prayer of Allah- advised his followers, saying,

“Find the lailatul qadr in the last ten days of Ramadan.” (Muttafaqun ‘alaih)

Think about it! Supposed that you’ve known and used the chance to pray in the lailatul qadr for 10 years, it means that you’ve prayed for more than 10 x 83,3 = 833 years. And if you’ve used this beautiful chance since 20 years ago, it means that the rewards of your prayer are more than rewards of praying for more than 1.666 years.

Allah the Great! Amazing, how many rewards that you got. But the question is, have your, for all this time, make the best use of the lailatul qadr ? Try to remember about the righteous deeds in Ramadan you performed during these years! The more you remembered, the more pangs of sorry you felt. Isn’t it?

If so, then this Ramadan is your chance to get up and strive at your best to get rid of your long lasting negligence.

Brother! Lailatul Qadr is truly the most excellent night, a golden chance to find. This night is your chance to obtain the most of Allah’s mercies.

Brother! If you’ve fasted in this holy month, now it is time to gain more preparation for your Hereafter life, by entering the doors of this afterlife.

“Whoever fasted on Ramadan, faithfully and sincerely, all of his past sins would be forgiven. And whoever prayed on the night of power, all of his past sins would be forgiven.” (Muttafaqun ‘alaih)

Now the doors of the Hereafter are all opened, and none is closed before you. Use this chance, since who knows that it might be the last chance for you to grab this wonderful chance.

Bring your family to feel the beauty of the night prayer on the night of Lailatul Qadr and to obtain Allah’s mercies upon them

‘Aisha -may Allah be pleased with her- wife of the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- revealed about the seriousness of the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- at the last ten days of Ramadan: :

إِذَا دَخَلَ الْعَشْرُ شَدَّ مِئْزَرَهُ ، وَأَحْيَا لَيْلَهُ ، وَأَيْقَظَ أَهْلَهُ. رواه مسلم

“When the last ten days of Ramadan came, the Prophet  eace and prayer of Allah be upon him- tightened his garment, enliven his night (by praying and supplicating enormously) and awakened his family.” (Narrated by Muslim).

So great was his attention to that night, that it tickled ‘Aisha -may Allah be pleased with her- to ask him about what should she do?

“”O Messenger of Allah, if I knew that I get the Lailatul Qadr, what should I do?”

“His replied was, “Say: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, indeed, you are the most merciful, and you love repentance, this forgive me). (Narrated by at Tirmidhi and Ibn Maja, sheikh Al Albani said that it is a valid hadith. As for the additional word ‘kariim’ after ‘Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni’, it wasn’t there, wasn’t even in one manuscript. See: “Tarooju’at Al ‘Alamah Al Albani fi At Tash-hiih wa At Tadh-‘if ” no. 25)

This is one of the best supplication. Because the Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- taught his most beloved wife about it to be uttered on the night of power.

By this supplication, you asked Allah to bestow upon you salvation from anything that might disadvantage or damage yourself, whether in religion or worldly business.

If you already blessed with healthy body, good provisions and family, safe from anything that might harm you, it means that you’ve possessed the greatest benefit of all.

And if you already blessed with salvation in your religion, you are already separated from the Fire, and succeeded in getting the pleasures of Paradise.

That is how you supposed to welcome and perform deeds on the night of power; by praying many, many times, and supplicating, asking Allah for goodness in this world and in the Hereafter.

May you be successful in finding the Night of Power, and realizing how great Allah’s graces that you could find in it.

And Allah knows best.
